Rioja
The Rioja wine region of Spain is centred on the city of Logroño in the north of the country. Nestled to the south of the Cantabrian Mountains, the region has all the benefits of a continental climate. Rioja is just one of many Spanish wines, yet it is the most internationally recognized – an integral part of Spanish culture and cuisine.
Marqués de Riscal
With its views over the Cantabric Mountains and the Rioja Alavesa vineyards, the innovative ‘wine-themed’ Marqués de Riscal was designed by renowned architect Frank O. Gehry.
The grape is everywhere, from the cellar beneath the lobby to the curled metallic canopies on sandstone pillars, meant to suggest a vine sprouting from the ground. Enjoy the views of the vineyards and the town of Elciego from any of the terraces, dine in the gastronomic restaurant and enjoy a ‘wine themed’ treatment in the Spa.
